Joyce Brandstetter Couch

                                      Artist

Joyce Brandstetter Couch is primarily a self taught artist. She constantly studies the world around her and the work of others. She completed a home study course in 1993 which she feels contributed to her abilities as an artist. During the course of study she was introduced to and experimented in various media. It was during this time period that she began to show her work and sold her first pieces. Joyce paints primarily in acrylic but still likes to experiment and does not limit herself in media or subject matter.

Joyce sold her first works under the name Joyce Gober. After the death of her husband, she remarried and started signing her paintings with her first name. There is a somewhat hidden ‘’B’’ and ‘C’’ underneath to honor her paternal family, because she believes you should never forget where you came from, and her husband who has been supportive of her need to express herself thru her artwork. It also resembles an open heart which she believes in living her life with.

Joyce spent several years doing decorative painting and is widely known for her Texas and farm related paintings on furniture, saw blades, old trunks, mailboxes, buckets, etc. She also taught herself the art of painting on tree leaves which she feels is an art form in itself. Even as a decorative painter she was dedicated to using only her own original work.

Among Joyce’s other interests are her family, gardening, fishing, and going on day trips with a camera. Joyce is a dedicated mother and a grandmother and believes that God and family should come first in life. She is a full time employee at a local school where she works as a paraprofessional with special needs students who are very near and dear to her heart.

Joyce sells her work locally and online. Her websites are www.joycesgallery.com and http://artbyjc.etsy.com.
